KLJ Moorslede
I am in the KLJ of Moorslede and this is a youth movement you can become a member of from the year you turn 16. I have been in this youth movement for four years and we do different activities throughout the year. We organise a reception with a party, we do activities throughout the year, we go on weekends during the summer holidays and we do "wimpelen". Of course, KLJ Moorslede also has their own outfit consisting of a green polo or T-shirt and a dark blue jumper with green lettering. To "wimpelen" The slogan of our KLJ is "KLJ Moorslede, waar pret geen groente is!" (where fun is no vegetable!).
Every year, we do a reception and party the second weekend of October. During the reception, family, friends and other citizens of Moorslede and the surrounding area are invited for a snack and a drink. At the reception, our KLJ girls wave large flags with our KLJ Moorslede logo on them during a dance to music. After 9pm, our reception turns into the "Prettige Pretfuif" where the youngsters flock to party.
Throughout the year, we do many activities. We start the new (school) year with a kick-off day where we welcome new members and introduce them to our group and vibe. The kick-off day is the second Sunday in September. We start the day by first going to Sunday mass which our board puts together itself along with the priest who leads the mass. After Mass, we wave with our flags in front of the church. After that, we do a reception in our local. Around noon, we then all leave in the cart of a tractor towards the venue where we eat and do introductory games. After the games afternoon, we return to the local and the day can end with an after-drink or you can just go home. Throughout the year we do activities such as bowling, laser shooting, Saint Nicholas party, Christmas party, girls and boys night, escape room and so on.
Every summer, we go to camp on the weekend of 21 July. In your first year of coming along to camp and your first year on the board, you will be baptised. During my baptism, there were 10 of us to be baptised. Don't panic, our baptisms are safe and generally fun. We get dirty, have to drink and often eat something we may or may not like. In addition, we have to do some simple tasks such as turning rounds or answering questions. Everyone who is baptised remembers it well for a while because of the garlic smell that creeps into our hair due to the garlic powder put in our hair during baptism. At the camp, we also do some activities that vary according to where we are. For instance, we have already been to Bobbejaanland, gone golfing, water-skiing and you name it. There is also a theme party every time. On Sunday evening, we always return home smug.
Finally, I also want to talk a bit more about the concept of "wimpelen". It is a kind of sport that most of the KLJ girls participate in. I myself really enjoy doing it. "Wimpelen" is basically dancing with a big flag to music. Our flags are mainly green with our logo on them. Among other things, we pennant at the launch day, at former members' weddings, at the reception for our party and at the sports festivals where we get together with the region and "wimpelen" is one of the five parts of the championship. This summer, at the sports festivals, we were in first place for "wimpelen". To "wimpelen", we mostly wear our green T-shirt or polo shirt and our black "wimpel" skirt.
Let me just note in the margin that I have always written "wimpelen" this way because I did not find a correct translation for the sport and therefore fixed it this way to make sure there would be no miscommunication.
