"Manneken-Pis"

Manneken-Pis is one of Belgium's most famous monuments. The mocking, crazy character is the symbol of the city of Brussels with more than 900 costumes of various origins hanging in his wardrobe. Before the monument became known as a folk character with the most diverse outfits, it was an ordinary fountain that played an essential role in the drinking water supply of Brussels in the 15th century. In the 17th century, Manneken-Pis took on an active role in city life and after the bombing of Brussels, it became a very valuable asset in which its fame increased even more.

People started putting him in costly outfits on special occasions. By the 18th century, he was already being dressed up at least four times a year. When the fountain was no longer an essential part of the city's water supply system, Manneken-Pis became the symbol of Brussels folklore, of the inhabitants' joie de vivre and of their capacity for self-mockery.

In the pictures, you can see some of his costumes he has already worn.
