Respect

A very big and important value in Belgium is respect and with that, courtesy. We always take everyone into account. For example, we will give up our seat to an older person or pregnant woman. On the train or bus, we put our bag on the floor or on our lap so someone can come and sit with us when it is crowded. During the corona pandemic, we wore a mouth mask to avoid infecting others in case we were unknowingly sick. Another simple example is holding the door open for the person behind you or letting someone go ahead of you at the checkout or when getting out. When someone drops their belongings, help pick everything up again and if you see that someone doesn't know something well, come to the rescue when you are aware of the information.
