Solidarity

In Belgium, we are very supportive of each other. It is a great value in our culture and can be found in different forms. We do different actions around different themes.

  • We organise Red Nose Day where we raise money for young people with mental problems and where they can tell their story on TV.
  • We organise Think Pink for people with breast cancer where we grow our hair and then donate or we set up an action to raise money by, for example, walking or running for Think Pink.
  • As an independent NGO and non-profit organisation, Kom op tegen Kanker is a pioneer and focal point in the fight against cancer in Flanders. The NGO is committed to three goals: less cancer, more cure and a better quality of life for those with cancer.
  • Every year around the holidays, we organise the Warmest Week. This year, the theme is poverty of opportunity and money is raised from different initiatives and organisations.
  • The last one I want to discuss, of the many actions we do in Belgium, is Stip it where, during the last week of February, we want to give a boost to children who are bullied and drive out bullying. We draw four dots on the top of our hand and do this for a week. A new song is usually released every year to bring the action even more to light.
