The Flemish Lion

The Flemish Lion is the flag of Flanders or the flag of the Flemish Community and the Flemish Region. The flag is based on one of the ancient arms of the county of Flanders. It is a yellow flag with a black lion, red clawed and tongued. The lion is depicted standing on its hind legs and clawing, facing the flagpole on the flag. In 1985, the flag was officially adopted as the flag of the Flemish Community. The flag should always hang on major administrative buildings of the Ministry of the Flemish Community and of Flemish public and scientific institutions. In addition, there are also important dates on which the flag must compulsorily hang out. Every citizen has the right to hang out this flag.
